Yes, I know; it’s not just Boston.

It’s Cambridge as well, and a few places beyond, even unto the suburbs, where the open space and wide lawns tend to make me nervous. But I do want to share some of my favorite things.

Favorite Restaurants:

Mary Chung's — Suan La Chow Show to die for.
Summer Shack — world’s best fried oysters.
Anna’s Taqueria — chicken quesadillas that melt in your mouth.
Ocean Wealth — a Chinatown gem.

Favorite Ice Cream Parlor:

Herrell’s. No, Toscanini’s. No, Herrell’s. No, wait a minute, definitely Toscanini’s. No. Geez, do I have to decide?

Favorite Views:

— Coming in to Boston on Route 2 East at Arlington Heights.

— Looking east on the BU Bridge. A few rowers on the Charles with the ever-present flock of white geese honking them enthusiastically onward.

Favorite Walks (not bad for biking or blading, either):

— Memorial Drive from Mass Ave to the Science Museum, across the bridge into Boston, then back down the Esplanade.

Simon's Shoes — Coolidge Corner
Designer Shoes — Newbury Street
The Barn — Newton

Favorite Music Venues:

Johnny D's — Davis Square, Somerville
Passim — Cambridge
Somerville Theater — Davis Square
